Stress is a mechanism triggered by some kind of danger or threat. When it needs to protect against danger -or perceived danger- the body responds with an automatic process known as ‘fight or flight’. For cave men, the threat of an animal attack would trigger the sympathetic nervous system into preparing for fighting or fleeing with a boost of strength and energy.
The ‘fight or flight’ response releases hormones into the bloodstream, increasing blood sugar levels and blood flow to the muscles and essential organs. The heart rate goes up, the breathing become faster, extra oxygen is sent to the brain, which increases alertness and sharpens the senses. Energy is diverted away from secondary processes such as digestion, growth and reproduction. When the threat passes, everything goes back to normal.
During long-term, chronic stress, the stress response does not end. The body stays on high alert, with raised blood sugar levels and body resources continuously being diverted away from the immune system, digestion, growth, reproduction etc. This may also result in damage in blood vessels, increasing the risk of a stroke or heart attack.

ANXIETY
Anxiety is a reaction to stress, but produces a persistent, excessive feeling of worry, fear and/or apprehension that doesn’t go away, even in the absence of a stressor. It is usually caused by thoughts of possible future events.
Managing stress and anxiety is one of my specialist areas and one that I love working with, as it can makes such a huge difference in someone’s life. Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), cognitive coaching and Hypnotherapy are extremely powerful and effective techniques to treat and help manage stress and anxiety. We work directly on the subconscious mind to improve the mood and boost feelings of calm and confidence whilst reducing feelings of fear and worry. We work to identify the deep root causes, as well as triggers, to disrupt formed patterns of stress response and secure long-term relief. During the coaching sessions, we will also explore realistic and practical adaptations to your lifestyle to manage and control high pressure situations. We will give you tools and techniques to access a calm state of mind by yourself so you can continue to benefit from stress and anxiety relief permanently.

YES, I THINK SO!
These are very common conditions, usually linked to extreme anxiety in specific situations. The feelings can range from mild discomfort to a severe panic attack, where you believe that you are having a heart attack or other near-death experience. Unless effectively treated, these states of anxiety and fear can become so severe that they entirely hinder your day to day life and quality of life. Anxiety coaching helps you disrupt negative cycles and control your thought patterns.
